Tommy had a better day at school and was calmer at home. Took a fake bath so he could watch The Simpsons then complained because it was one he’s seen before. Spent dinner getting a manners lecture by Dad. Now he’s in bed trying to stay awake by wiggling, tapping, etc.

Wednesday, February 11th, 2004Super clean, super fast
Wednesday, February 11th, 2004Tommy in and out of the tub in under 10 minutes. There is no plausible way that he used soap or shampoo! However, this is a battle I choose not to fight.

Wednesday, February 11th, 2004Tommy reading D & D in front of the woodstove (grate in..looks like a fireplace). I wish I could get him into a small group. Time is so thin.

Wednesday, February 11th, 2004Tommy appears very happy. Apparently he went to several clases today including gym, homeroom, science, reading…some others I don’t remember. He also said that tomorrow is an ice cream valentine’s party and that they will be selling tickets for a dance “but I’m not interested in that. I don’t like dancing.” To which I replied “how do you know? You’ve never been to a dance. Besides, most people don’t dance. It’s a social event.” I encouraged him to consider it; his mother or I would have to be in the shadows though.
He comes down stairs and asks “Can I go talk to the adult neighbor?” His mother says “Do you have homework?” He says “I don’t think so. Let me check.” A minute passes “Oh! I guess I do have homework!”
Teacher Taped Mouth Shut
Wednesday, February 11th, 2004Teacher Tapes Students Mouth Shut – mentions it on report card (with picture)
“A teacher has been accused of taping up the mouth of a special needs pupil, and then boasting about it in his school report.
…
…then wrote in Ben’s school report: ‘Excellent work – once I taped up his mouth!’
…
‘If a parent had done that they would have had the social services on to them.’”
I understand that it was intended to be symbolic and help the child. I support creative approaches to helping children like Tommy; however, when trying something new the parents or pyschologist should be consulted!

Wednesday, February 11th, 2004Dad reports this morning:
* Tommy leaning toward grumpy but he’s more stoic than anything else. He has homework to do and is complaining that his throat hurts. Instead of doing his homework, he just sat at his desk and pulled his comforter over his head
Dad reports last night:
* I came downstairs about 8:20 to check email and when I heard Tommy’s mother come into the house about 8:40 I went upstairs to talk to her and Tommy had turned his light out and put himself to sleep
