Tommy, Amy and I went to a park that was mainly slides. Tommy watched after his sister and talked about her achievements. He enjoyed sliding on a handle that is attached within a tube and rides on ball bearings; it slides easily back and forth the length of the tube. He “bouldered” on a “climbing wall.” Overall it was a great time.

Tommy came home from the playground happy and calm. He went to take a bath without any argument.

Tommy continues to nap and hide. I worry that he won’t be able to sleep and feel guilty that he has gone into hiding out of frustration from trying to get his Dad or I to interact with him on a day when we are both irritable. I’m going to try and awaken him.

a not-for-profit business specializing in custom screen-printed merchandise… employs seriously and persistently mentally ill people, as well as developmentally disabled individuals.

Imagine a job environment where employees can’t wait to come to work. A place where workers have to be told to take a day off. And where the work force, which generated $700,000 in gross sales last year, is viewed by most people as “unemployable.”

…workers have conditions such as schizophrenia, bi-polar disorders or severe depression, this is the first time they’ve held down meaningful steady employment…
…the job is a welcome relief from mopping floors at a local fast-food restaurant.
“You can’t imagine what it’s like for them to walk in the mall and see someone wearing a T-shirt they made,” …
…In rare instances where employees are hospitalized because of a relapse of their mental illness, their jobs are held indefinitely.

Tommy is talking and attempting to be the center of attention. My patience for him is absent today but he ignores my efforts to be left alone and pushes harder for attention.

Tommy seems calm today. He woke up and immediately started making the blueberry muffins I gave him permission to cook last night. After putting them in the oven he sat down to read the Sunday funnies with no running commentary. Sunday is usually his I’m bored day.
