Lying

Dad reports:
I went upstairs to check on Tommy last night. He’d been given permission to play on his mother’s computer. So, lips a smackin, Tommy has that “I got caught” guilty look on his face. I ask, “Whacha been eatting?” and he replies, “Nothing. I was drinking some Koolaid.” Alright, he’s on a high from his moment in the spotlight and I’m not about to bring him down with an argument over food.

It’s not the eatting bothers me, although he needs to curb his snacking. Lying makes me very angry. So this morning I go in the kitchen and there is chocolate icing smeared all over the counter. I decide that until Tommy is ready to discuss it that there will be no video gaming. I slink into his room and start removing controllers. Tommy is lying there wide awake with glasses on (which usually means he has been reading) so I tell him, “you lied to me last night.” Tommy, “about what?” I reply, “Last night I asked what you were eatting and you lied to me.” Tommy, “What was I eatting?” (admission of guilt in Tommyspeak) I say, “I know what you were eatting. You lied to me.” Tommy, “what was I eatting?!”

I am not really sure how to handle this. The snacking really isn’t a big deal. Maybe Tommy absolutely cannot control himself and I’ll just end up needing to lock the refrigerator and cabinets. Finishing the food pantry downstairs would be a big help. The lying is the issue here. Not the food. I must figure out a way to make Tommy want to be honest!

Dad reports this morning:
Tommy did GREAT yesterday! He was scared to death so when we arrived at the horse show he sleep in the car..hid in the car would be a better way to put it. They announced the schedule and after a brief riding demonstration the judges would break for lunch and then Tommy’s class would come up. They skipped the lunch and Tommy had to get hastily prepared in front of everyone (which meant changing his shirt but that is a big bother to him) so he bit into his mother pretty hard. However, he got in the arena and performed exceptionally.

While the riders were lined up to hear who got what ribbons Tommy was going to town on his lips so much that you’d think he was going to bite through them. He received two first place ribbons and a second place (I’ll have to look up the specifics and post later). The glee on his face is almost beyond words. He almost floated out of the saddle. It was a very good moment!
