Dad reports this morning:
Tommy had a great ride at STAR last night. He held his posture well and until the end I don’t think he was overtalking. We got home and he was asked to bathe. He started to act up just like he did the night we drove to Penisula. We quieted him with the Penisula reminder and sent him to the bathroom. He went in his room and read. A bit later I took away his book and sent him to the bathroom. After another hour or so I found him asleep on the bathroom floor still smelling like a horse. I moved him to his bed.
This morning I woke him before 6 am and required him to get in the tub. He would only scrub if I was in the bathroom with him (the second I left, he would just lay in the water) and absolutely refused to shampoo his hair so I did that for him. He restrained himself as to not wake the household but whined and cried as I washed his hair. I really don’t think he ever “scrubs” which has to be part of his odor. I think he just plays with the soap and gently applies it to select parts of his body. So just how does one go about teaching a 14 year old boy how to bathe? We were recently advised that we should not just explain to Tommy that masterbation is ok but that we should teach him how to do it. That sentence is funny to hear and funny to read. More properly stated, we should be teaching him things he should not do when he does masterbate and how to clean up. Monty Pythonesque (amz) visions come to mind. At least we don’t have to watch prime time comedy because in this household we live it!
