Brain Abnormality Linked to Hyperactivity Disorder

Thursday, December 2nd, 2004

Dad reports:

Brain scans of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder show abnormalities in the fiber pathways along which brain signals pass

The finding indicates the disorder may be more than just a chemical imbalance…

“The findings … indicate that the therapeutic effect of stimulants may involve a brain normalization process,”…

Lost lunch

Thursday, December 2nd, 2004

Dad reports:
Tommy was given a lunch check on Tuesday. $10.50 buys him a lunch ticket good for 5 lunches. He used it on Tuesday then lost it and didn’t mention it. So he has an IOU with the school for yesterday. He has in his wallet $10 that “oh..I’ve been saving that!”

So, do I replace the lunch check? Or do I make Tommy pay $4.20 out of his personal savings?

I told Tommy that if I pay $10.50 for one lunch it better have something on the plate that I can’t pronounce!

Take Number 67231

Dad reports this morning:
New plan today. I woke Tommy at 5:30 and gave him his medicine. He sat up and took it without complaint then went back to sleep. I gave him 35 minutes (intended 15) and squirted his feet twice. He moaned, said “stop it!” then complained that his feet were cold but didn’t get up. I finally got him moving around at 6:20.

Today begins his Effexor weaning. Over the course of the next 3 weeks he will be weaned of Effexor leaving Geodon as his only medication. This will be the least amount of medication I have ever seen Tommy on! At one point he had so many medications that he was taking 9 pills in one sitting.

I am hoping this getting up earlier will help him not sleep through English class. And maybe he can eat enough to not be hungry. He has bad days at school when he misses breakfast because he waited until the bus arrived to get ready.
